Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is the current flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the minister of energy, has instructed Ghanaians to disregard rumors that he intends to support Dr. Bawumia in the event that he runs for president in 2024 and wins and does so.

Napo, as he is affectionately known, claimed in an interview with Kwame Adinkrah on Kumasi’s Pure FM on March 20, 2023, that he feels Dr. Bawumia is qualified to govern Ghana, which is why he gives it his all to promote his qualifications.

He stated that his major focus continues to be on his roles as Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, and that he is not trying to win the Vice President’s favor.

“Kwame, I’ve also heard on the radio and in social media that I want to be Dr. Bawumia’s vice, which is why I’ve made it my constant mission to convince Ghanaians of Dr. Bawumia’s competency.

These rumors should not be believed, Ghanaians. Neither a born-right nor an elected position, vice president is a position.

Tell me, why would I sit here and consider or harbor the thought of serving as the person under discussion’s vice president when he hasn’t even proclaimed his ambition to head the NPP as its flagbearer.

“My main concentration is being the Minister of Energy, which is what I do. Nonetheless, I have faith in our Vice President’s abilities, and Ghanaians need to be aware of them.

I’m not attempting to win his endorsement,” Responding was Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
